Shreveport Spring, Brake and Axle began in 1923 as Colquitt Spring, owned by Mr. "Peanuts" Hudnall, on Texas Avenue down by the Shreveport waterfront. The business preceded the construction of the Texas Avenue Bridge over the Red River by several years.
In 1946, Mr. Hudnall passed away and the late W. L. "Bill" Creger purchased the business from Mr. Hudnall's widow. In the 1950's, Mr. Creger moved the business to its present location at 247 Agurs Avenue. The present building has been expanded several times to accommodate larger operations.
In 1975, Mr. Creger changed the business name from Colquitt Spring to Creger
Spring. The business continued to operate as Creger Spring for the next 23 years.
Mr. Creger passed away in the early 1990's and his son, "Spunky" Creger continued to operate the business.
In 1998, Spunky Creger approached Dr. D. M. Edwards about purchasing the Creger Spring business. Spunky Creger knew Dr. Edwards had operated spring shops, truck and trailer repair operations, and heavy-duty warehouses in Houston and Odessa, Texas, and that Edwards had previously owned the land, buildings, and business at Walker Auto Spring & Brake in Shreveport.
In July of 1998, purchase arrangements were made for the land, buildings, inventory, shop and office equipment. The operations and facilities were purchased by a Louisiana corporation named Shreveport Spring, Brake & Axle, Inc.
Since the initial purchase of the buildings, land and business, new office equipment, shop equipment, and warehouse equipment have been added to upgrade the quality of service to the customer.
The employees and management of Shreveport Spring, Brake and Axle look forward to serving Shreveport, Bossier City, and the Ark-La-Tex area for the next 100 years.
